I’ve tried to make sure I get the annual cancer screenings recommended by my doctor. I get my pap smears. I’m not always as good about the breast self exams as I should be. Fortunately, I have not had any reason to be concerned so far. Despite these good results, I will continue to get my scheduled exams. Early detection is a huge factor in the fight against.
Now through the end of October, 2012, the makers of Freschetta® pizza are helping to promote breast cancer awareness through their new The Strength of 1™ campaign, which includes sponsoring Bright Pink, the only national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support to high-risk individuals. The mission of this The Strength of 1™ initiative is to inspire everyone to realize they can make a difference in some way in the fight against breast cancer.
How did I make a difference today? I took the pledge. I enrolled in monthly reminders to do self exams. I’m spreading the word. It’s that simple.

It’s not hard to make a difference. Do you have a suggestion for simple ways to make a difference?

I worked for Rally for a Cure (helping organize golfing events around the country to raise money for breast cancer research). Part of what they did was give out shower hang-tags with reminders. One bit of advice was to do exams every week if you couldn’t remember to do them every month. It gets you in the habit and more familiar with what’s normal, so you know if something isn’t.
Excellent suggestion!
